The American Flag.
Her heraldry is well know to all,
Fifty white stars on a quarter of blue,
Represent each state of our great union,
And the solidarity which they endue,
Thirteen stripes alternate red then white,
The original thirteen states they review.
A symbol known the whole world over,
Respected wherever men would be free,
Sometimes called The Star Spangled Banner
Or affectionately known as Old Glory,
She flies bravely where ere she is sent,
Proclaiming power and peace for our country.
The sight of her rippling in a stiff breeze,
When great National peril threatens our fall,
Or draped o'er the caskets of American vets,
Who in service to country have given their all,
Brings chills to the flesh of every patriot,
And makes us each want to answer her call.
To arms! To arms! Protect this great land,
When adversity threatens our peaceful way,
She'll be at the forefront in war and peace,
Proudly leading our troops into each fray,
But giving notice to all of our fond hope,
And representing the peace for which we pray.
The American flag is a "living" thing,
Endued with the life of our Constitution,
She will live as long as the nation survives,
Making her encouraging contribution,
May she evermore wave o'er the home of the free,
And stand as a bulwark against all persecution.
So salute her when she passes by,
Hand over heart, is the proper way,
Recognize what she stands for in our land,
Thank God for her protection every day,
The Red, White, and Blue, of our grand old flag,
May her appearance never become blase.
