Mercy Mercy, why are you sleeping?
Dreaming so deeply;
deaf to the cries.
Mercy, why are you weeping?
Justify your tears
Dry your blue eyes
And as the footsteps are marching
You're silently watching
Debating your call
Mercy, wake from your slumber
For rest time is over
Your time is at hand
Mercy, why do you struggle
In chains laid at your side
You're no longer bound
Mercy, must we all smuggle
Our joys from another
We fear you're not found
And we can hear your labored breath
We worry over your death
We need to know you're OK

around my finger is the promise, no joke.
I took it serious as so many do, did
