The Bible states in Hebrews 13:2, "Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares."
In Daniel 12:1, the Bible states, "And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book."
Daniel 10:15-19 speaks of a strengthening angel of the Lord. This passage shows that angels have the power to give spiritual gifts.
Psalm 91:9-12 and Exodus 23:20 tell of the role of angels. Here we learn that God has given angels a charge over us to keep us in all His ways. We are not alone in the conflict between good and evil, and angels deliver us from evil.
Acts 5:17-20 and Acts 12:4-11 tell of angelic intervention. In these two passages an angel of the Lord frees the apostles so that they can speak the words of life.
Genesis 19:1-13 speaks of angels as men. In this passage two angels, described as two men, come to Lot in Sodom to instruct him to leave the city because they are going to destroy it for its corruption. Here we learn angels also have the power to execute God's judgment on a people.
Angels are celestial beings. We were made a little lower than angels. The Bible speaks many more passages of angels being involved in the affairs of men. I actually have a list of seventy-one verses and passages that speak of angelic intervention. One of my favorites is a verse concerning angels and children Matthew 18:10, "Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven."
The word "angel" means "messenger." Indeed, though we may not always see them, they are here. We are part of a conflict between good and evil, where even demons and devils intervene. Just imagine the work that angels are doing in the world today. No, they do not receive media publicity. They may not be easily recognized as angels when they appear to us, but they are here. Since the apostasy of man, angels have done the work of the Lord. When you pray or call on God for help you never know if He might send an angel in answer. An angel might take on any appearance, according to the way they are described in the Bible. So, don't doubt it for a minute that there may be one or more angels in your life and in the lives of people you know and love.
Put in another way, the question could be posed, "Are there higher beings than ourselves that are concerned with our spiritual affairs?"
The answer is clear and obvious. There are animals that inhabit the planet we share. There are fish that swim in the seas and oceans and lakes. There are trees, flowers and plants that live in the soil. There are angels in the heavens, and there are angels of the earth. They may know us better than we know ourselves, which gives them the power to impart to us wisdom and knowledge for the sake of our well-being.When mankind first entered into sin he became like the angels, knowing the difference between good and evil. Yet, man was intended to be innocent of that knowledge. Now that he is not, angels have been given the task of seeing us through the darkness that we are strangers to, and keeping us in the light where all who seek God's goodness belong. Ultimately, we will be among angels in eternity, just as they are among us until that time has come.
