God is giving those who are suffering the most just what they need; He is blessing us! I say us, because those who seem to be the hardest hit are North Americans (I am Canadian), perhaps because we've the most to lose.
Certainly the whole world has been affected but those who are "feeling it" the most are North Americans because we have lived our lives ruled by our bank accounts and material wealth. We have made "things" our "gods" and forgotten God Himself. We have taken for granted and, ashamed to say, have lived lives that say to the world, "We are blessed because we deserve it!"
If you look at other countries of the world - yes there is more to the world than the United States or Canada - you will find in those countries we call "third world" that the peoples are not as deeply impacted by what is going on, because they have lived most, if not all, of their lives without and making do with pretty much nothing!
Are we seeing an about face? Can these other "n'er do well countries" that we've so "magnanimously" lent a hand to over the years and centuries - can they now be the ones who will be "lending" us a hand; teaching us how to live? Can they be the ones to teach us the Heart of God; that is, that people matter and not things; teach us how to share and be Love in Action?
If you've read any of my postings where I made reference to other countries, you'll be familiar with my beliefs that those from countries with little material wealth, are indeed richer than we here in North America; that the residents of those countries can teach us the value of life and what it means to be a human being and what it means (especially if you call yourself a Christian) to be a neighbour! In the few countries that I have visited, I've always returned home even more dissatisfied with my country, my city and my "neighbours." If I was out of food or needed medical attention and knocked on my neighbour's door in my condominium, chances are they would not answer the door. And why is that; could be two-fold: (1) because they are afraid that I might want something, or (2) they are just afraid!
I started off my response by saying that God is allowing the suffering, because it is what is needed at such a time as this. The stench of our material world has surely reached the throne room of the Divine Creator and He must be absolutely fed up with us. Perhaps He is giving us a second chance; a chance to rethink our lives and search our hearts and see what is really important
