Keeping house plants happy and healthy

When caring for houseplants first and foremost; it is imperative that you pay attention to them. Many houseplants are tempermental...looking them up and reading about their care is a good idea. I have learned, however, that the only way to ensure that the plant will thrive is to monitor it.

Is your plant a little droopy? It probably wants some water. Water it and watch it perk up gratefully. It may also want some light. If you are unfamiliar with how much light to give your plant try and find out. Some plants actually like a dark corner, while others stretch their tendrils towards windows and lights. You will know if your plant doesn't want light if it starts to become scorched. If that happens get it out of the window asap.

Some plants don't like a lot of water. Succulents only need to watered once in a while. Even some flowering plants are frequently over-watered and overfed. If leaves are turning yellow and flowers suddenly die....chances are you've loved it too much.

Just go easy. Get to know each plant. They all want different things, like people.

Talk to your plants as you take care off them. Studies have shown that plants respond favorably to conversation and music. My plants enjoy Mozart, in particular the Magic Flute. Remember that they are living and breathing; they come from the same earth you do. They are helping you by cleaning the air in your house.
