Marvel character profiles: Wolverine

by Bruce Bostwick

Created on: July 27, 2009

Wolverine is a character from the Marvel Universe that is mostly associated with the X-Men. It did seem that the two were linked together as that would be the case. His most known name would be as Logan. He was created as somewhat of a different breed of hero. One common theme about him is that he slowly ages and seems to remain in his youth for many years.

His abilities include the claws that can slash through about anything and even going beyond that, being able to heal up quickly. Sometimes it can take a while depending upon of course the severity of the injury. It could take days or hours if it is real severe.

Mostly, he is known for his tenure or best remembered in many media outlets as being a member of the X-Men. He was considered one of the leaders of the group but had been apart of wars. Depending upon the version and which person was writing would be about it in the first place.

In the cartoon, X-Men: The Animated Series, he would tell a story about his time in World War II. He would be teaming up with Captain America, as he was a member of the Allies to help save the world from evil. Of course, that is just one version but again, it all depends on which one you are watching or reading comics of course.

His personality is that of a loner though he does team up with the X-Men more often than not. He is a skilled fighter and knows many styles of Martial Arts. His skills could rival anyone without question. Wolverine was simply one who has been all over the world learning languages everywhere. At times, he can have a rage but does not seem to be too thrilled with it in the first place. As a matter of fact, he would rather it not happen but it can if it means saving his own life. That is the one reason that he can do it.

Wolverine has appeared in different outlets and different versions of comics over the years. There have been ones that use him as if he had been in another dimension or another reality. There is the Marvel Zombies universe and then there is the Ultimate universe.

Going back to saying he is a different breed of hero. He was a bit darker than others at the time. It seemed that there was a definite black and white on who was good and who was evil. He was more of an anti-hero that would do whatever it took. For what it is worth, he was different at the time. In reality, he was one who could be dangerous was smart. It seemed that he might have been a counter to Batman but not to that extent. Wolverine was different but one that can really figure out a solution without question.
