Poetry: Guilt

by GW Michaels

Shadows following, as I walk down the street.

Glaring eyes, from the people I meet.

A chill runs from my neck to my feet.

I can't run from this feeling, a maze of deceit.

The dark man appears in my dreams each night.

Chasing me down to a cliff, we fight.

A thousand bones resting on the shore below.

Crashing waves, A crying wind blows.

Awaken to a pool of sweat.

I tried to live my life with no regrets.

But the dreams we shared and put in a box.

Lies broken, scattered, our lives of dust.

The horse I road, so tall with pride.

Infidelity, conceit, beneath the lies.

Broken promises, selfishness, collide.

Left little room for our love inside.

An accidental fall as you tried to leave.

Casts a giant shadow, as nobody believes.

Violent words spoken, I can't retrieve.

Memories of us and how it used to be.

Now its plane to see, I'll lose this fight

As no-one succeeds, against the dark man.

For the dark man, is who we were meant to be.
