Poetry: Heaven

Created on: July 26, 2009   Last Updated: December 04, 2009

Heaven is not a pearly gate
wiped with the blood of the lamb
staffed with angels in a golden city,
paved with colonial streets of gold,

Heaven is not a place built on martyr's blood,
wiped with the blood of the lamb
stones and wood slick with pain's tears,
Dripping down to soak in the grain,

There are no portals through high marble arches
wiped with the blood of the lamb,
behind portico's and curtains embroidered
with scenes of old, angles looking down,

Heaven is not a place where Jesus sits
wiped with the blood of the lamb,
no Paul on his right and the devil on his left,
no banquet tables covered with bountiful plenty for all,

Heaven is not a place where God sits on a throne
wiped with the blood of the lamb
waiting for just those blessed in the land,
But you are welcome to believe whatever you want.
