Writing a resume is never an easy task and it is helpful to find good templates from sites that offer free job search resources. These should provide you with up-to-date resume samples and a range of templates for different types of job. Never attempt to use a generic template or free basic template. Some of these are out of date, difficult to format, or will not work well for online job applications.
An Internet search will inevitably bring up a number of websites claiming to teach you how to write a resume or offering paid resume writing services. Avoid all these and focus on free resources for resume writing.
Monster is the biggest online job search database, with different sites for job seekers in various parts of the world. All Monster sites offer a variety of useful articles, message boards and services relevant to finding jobs in each location.
In the Monster Resume Center you will find resume samples and good templates for different industries, professions and a wide range of jobs, so you should find some that fit your own career objectives.
Check out Monster resume makeovers if you already have a draft of your resume. You will see samples of real professional resumes as they were before, and how they look after a successful makeover. You should be able to find samples that provide you with all you need to know about updating or revising your own resume.
Take time to assess all the sample resumes and templates you find online from different sources. You can safely use a good template, or copy the formatting from a sample resume, for your own purposes, but never copy any of text you read on a sample.
If you view some sample resumes for industries or professions that are not applicable to your own line of work, you can learn some of the basic dos and don'ts of resume writing. Notice how well some things work and why others do not make good sense. Select for yourself the best ways to highlight your own work experience and qualifications.
While the content of your resume is of utmost importance in finding a job, the layout and the format you use are also important for making the right impression and gaining attention of your future employer.
Use all the free resources available to write a winning resume for yourself. Finding a good template will work to your advantage and help you to create a resume which will represent you in the best possible way.
