Indoor gardening: Growing your own vegetables and herbs indoors during the winter

These days technology has perfected the process of indoor growing. Regardless of the temperatures outside during the winter, you can now adapt new indoor gardening technologies to grow any vegetable inside your home such as plants, flowers and all kinds of vegetables. The good news is that these indoor growing techniques are very cost effective. The indoor gardening techniques can enable anyone who understands the process to grow more productive plants in less time, regardless of the time of the year. Whether you are experienced or new in indoor gardening, this article will take you through the important steps from beginning to end with regard to growing indoors.

New methods for indoor growing

Indoor growing is not just a hobby anymore. In the past it was perceived as a pastime for many gardeners who are interested in mostly raising and growing flowers. Today you can basically grow any garden type flowers, food, and even many tropical plants. There are five important elements, which a new indoor grower must understand. These five elements includes; Lightening, nutrition, propagation, environmental control, and cultivation

Lightening

Lightening is a very important aspect of indoor growing. Consider the fact that the sun provided by Mother Nature is the pivotal point for outdoor growing. Without sunlight, plants would not survive. This holds true for your indoor growing as well. Your beginning point is to consider your best lightening system for your indoor gardening. You can even order your lightening equipment through an online store.

Environmental Control

This is also a vital element of indoor growing. You must figure out a way to circulate free oxygen to your plants. Again this is of critical significance to outdoor growing where oxygen is in abundance through the circulation if air. There are all kinds of affordable equipment available through any store selling indoor growing equipment.

Propagation

There are few options for you to consider at this stage. You may want to start the process from the scratch by planting seeds. If this is your desired option then you will need further equipment for seed planting. You may decide to buy pre-grown plants, ready for transplantation indoors. This option would save you time of waiting for your seeds to germinate. You may also cut off a stem from an existing plant for plantation; in either case the step here is to start the process of propagation.

What technique will you use, Hydroponics or Soil?

The next step is to choose the method you will employ in your indoor growing. Hydroponics involves growing your indoor garden without using the soil. Hydroponics, is an alternative method that would use mixed food nutrients. This process facilitates the growing stages, and crop production happens in less time than the time involved in outdoor gardens. On the other hand, growing your garden in soil requires the use of containers, big enough to accommodate the number of plants you want to grow.

Supplying food and nutrients to your plants

This final stage deals with providing your plants with food and nutrients to facilitate their growth and plant production. High nutrient food in water may quicken the growth of your plants. It is recommended that your food mixture include high and concentrated nutrients rich in nitrogen compounds particularly for plants, which have heavy vegetation. When the plant starts to bear fruit you may want to increase the level of phosphorus in the mixed nutrient plant food. These products are readily available at any indoor growing supply shop. Good luck and have a bountiful crop yield, make sure you have an extra refrigerator to store your surplus vegetables.
