This is actually a really good subject; lots of religious critics have gone on and on about how Harry Potter is occult and evil, but personally me being a person of very strong faith disagree. I have been a Harry Potter fanatic since J.K Rowling wrote her first book, I'm also a very strong Christian, and I have lots of things I have written on the likenesses of Harry Potter and the bible.
For one Lord Voldemort started off as a student at Hogwarts always kind of had a liking for the dark arts, but he's a lot like Lucifer the angel who fell, we now know him as Satan. Voldemort started out as Tom Riddle, but then not liking where he came from and his past history changed his name to Lord Voldemort; to me he represents the Devil, the evil side his followers are like demons and the evil that we deal with on a daily basis.
Harry Potter is a lot like any one of us he goes through his life being different then everyone else not knowing who he really is, he's faced daily with obstacles between good and evil. Harry reminds me of me when it comes to my spiritual walk, one day your on top of the world the next dealing with your friends dyeing and being attacked from evil forces. It's a lot like being a Christian everyday you face ridicule and people judging you for who you are and your beliefs, so to me Harry represents anyone who is a follower of Christ as well as Christ himself.
There is a lot of prophecy in Harry Potter and the bible is full of prophecy. Jesus was scared and marked Harry was also. In the Bible Satan takes form of a snake it's the same in Harry Potter Voldemort uses a snake and can talk to it. Harry has a group of friends that he forms when he gets older Dumbledore's Army; Jesus also had many disciples and friends that followed him around. Harry would sacrifice himself anyway for his friends Jesus did as well. Love is the main theme in Harry Potter the one thing that keeps Harry from ever losing with Voldemort.
To me Harry Potter is full of things that are in the bible if you really get into it there is a lot every book and the whole story is like Jesus life and the bible.
And the last enemy that shall be defeated is death, 1 Corinthian 15:25-26 this quote from the bible is on the tombstone of Harry' parents, and refers to Christ's resurrection. I could go on all day.
Harry Potter and the books that J.K Rowling has dedicated so much time to are in essence about love and friendship and overcoming evil, you could sit down and go through each book and it's bible references, the books all have animal references as does the bible the lion of Judah, the Gryffindor where Lion and the strong ones. The Slytherin represent a snake and evil, Satan took form of a snake in the Garden of Eden.
The Bible has lots of stories about triumph as does Harry Potter all seven of the books actually, going against the odds the bible is full of stories like Noah and the flood, David and Goliath, Jonah and the whale these are all stories that the bible talks about. The books also have side stories and things Harry has to do to overcome Voldemort.
I love the books and will continue to analyze the likenesses of Harry Potter and the Bible.
