President Obama's proposal for health care reform

Gazing into the heavens from which he descended, Mr. Obama proclaimed the stars aligned, signaling the dawning of his proposed healthcare reform. This marks a turning point in the world of politics where facts and figures have taken a backseat to myth in proving a persuasion.

Since the election, Americans have written to editors across the nation leveling complaints of unjust bias. But Obama's tendency to consult the heavens instead of Americans on the issue of healthcare reform continues to go unreported.

Many in journalism learn to detect subtleties that signal intention's-such things as the revealing signs of desperation in their subjects. However, in the case of Obama, a reporter's expertise from schooling is quite irrelevant. It's simple: the moment one supports his ideology with astrology, we have a problem. Forget a four-year degree. I sense desperation in our president.

There's no question that Mr. Obama's plan aims to shoot for the stars. The Congressional Budget Office released a conservative estimate of the bill totaling 1.6 trillion dollars. To put that number in prospective, only 800 billion dollars are in circulation today. In other words, all that is monetarily tangible covers only half of healthcare's cost. But rest assured. The government stands ready to offer its trademark super supplement via a US printing press.

Unfortunately, unlike the money needed to enact the plan, the doctors needed to carry out the plan aren't able to be produced from thin air.

Two factors have greatly discouraged individuals from entering the healthcare field in recent years: the threat of frivolous lawsuits and the accumulated cost of medical schooling. These inhibitors to employment have received virtually no attention in Obama's sweeping healthcare reform. As a result, the number of doctors will at best remain the same but will likely decline, after which the nightmare of rationing will ensue.

In the case of the elderly, they will have no case in the court of government-run health care. Procedures such as organ transplants and treatments for disease will be reserved exclusively for the young who will get the most use out of them. Ironically, in the name of universal healthcare, those living out their last years will be universally overlooked.

For the rest of the population, the prospect of their long-term health will be equally dismal.

Needless to say, more than stars will step in line to accommodate the change to come. Wait times at your local doctor's office will exceed wait times at your favorite theme parktime passed with less enjoyment and more nausea.

Faced with an influx of competition and less consideration, patients will allow their health to worsen. Yet, even after becoming deathly ill, they'll be forced to set themselves apart in order to attract the limited attention of their healthcare provider. Oddly, in Obama's plan, a self-imposed amputation may actually help their situation.

As demonstrated above, what's been labeled healthcare reformation is, in fact, a blatant attempt at government intervention and healthcare discrimination. A sick plan indeed.
