The first thing to consider when redecorating a bedroom is the many colour choices and combinations which can be incorporated into the new bedroom. You need to be aware of what you want your room to say about you. You need to be sure about the types of colours that would help to portray who you are. You need to think of what kind of atmosphere you want to create.
Colours such as red, orange and yellow create a warm atmosphere but can make a room appear smaller unlike blue, white and green which create a fresher look and makes a space appear to be more open.
Contrasting colours within a room are very much the in-thing. It can give any room a lift and create little bit of edge. Rather than using white in order to accompany a central colour, a contrasting colour is the way to go as white can sometimes make a room look a little bare. A subtle colour paired with a central colour can create a little more warmth and bring the walls to life!
After the colours, the next thing to consider is where to place them and whether or not you should feature wallpaper. You can create a very different look depending on where you place your colours. Painting the same colour on two walls that are opposite each other can lengthen the room, a long strip of a colour on the top or bottom of a wall can also add to this effect and placing colours on a skirting board creates a more sophisticated look and makes a room look more complete in terms of the way different shades of colours are organised within a room.
Having a feature wall is a must-have for newly decorated bedrooms. It helps to give focus within a room and is a great way to get creative. You can use patterned wallpaper for a feature wall. This is a great option as it incorporates some pattern into a room with blocks of paint. If you prefer to get a little more creative, you could paint a pattern straight onto the wall, use it as a wall to display any artwork or even put scraps of different materials onto it.
Accessorising in a bedroom is also a key point to address. It is important to have various items within your room that match and contrast the colours of the walls. Vases, artwork, bedding and curtains must team up and add definition to the room. Sometimes clashing can also do this but only a limited amount as too much organised clashing can look a little tacky.
Think colours, accessories and even more accessories when redecorating and you can never go wrong! Try to stick to the guidelines but don't be afraid to add your own unique twist to a room. Maybe even have a theme for your room in mind before decorating!
