Should we go to the movie theatre or rent a DVD and watch it at home? Hmmm...

While I generally prefer to go see a movie, I've also rented a movie or two on DVD and watched it at home. Many people fill up the movie theatres numerous times per day, however, there are alot of people who swear to only renting DVDs and watching them at home. There are pros and cons of each side that leads to a true debate. Here are just a few:

WATCHING MOVIE AT THEATRE

PROs:

A daytime family outing

A night out on the town

Enjoying a movie when it first comes out

Seeing it in a dark theatre

Seeing it on a bigger screen

CONs:

Crowds of people

Finding seats

The cost per person

Waiting in line

Food or not to food

WATCHING DVDS AT HOME

PROs:

At home comfort

Expanded time to watch

Larger movie selection in the store

Potty/snack break convenience

Stop and go the DVD

CONs:

Older movie choices

Movie choice not in

Mounting late fees

Crowded store

Movie returns (time penalty)

Waiting in line at check out

As you can see, the list of pros or cons can be surprising for either side. Hmmm...

Do I want a social occasion or a stay at home activity? Do I want to be in the middle of a crowd or watch a movie by myself? The case for each side has its own merit. I believe that your choice just depends on factors like - how much you want to see the movie, if you have the time, and the cost, lets say, for a family of four.

What about wanting to see a movie again, after already seeing it at the movie theatre?

What about missing a movie when it was in the theatre, so renting the DVD for a cozy time at home?

What about taking kids to the theatre to see a 3D movie on the big screen?

What about making a day at the movies as in a double feature?

Some pros and cons overlap each other melding the sides of the debate. For example: both the theatre or DVD store have to be driven to, both have multiple movie choices, both have snacks and restrooms.

What a decision-making process! Which do I like to do more? I still have to say I like going to the movie theatre more, however, I wouldn't hesitate to rent the DVD if I missed a movie when it was out at the theatre, or to see the movie again..
