How education can pave the way out of poverty

There are very few illiterate people who are rich. There are some people who have used common sense and ingenuity to become prosperous, but they had to have some basis education in order to perform this feat. Along the way they also became self-educated.

Some children have a more difficult time to become educated because of their home situations. If it is a one parent home, there have to be a lot of challenges. The child may feel a lack of parental and financial support or even something as mundane as having to do too many chores. If this parent has no immediate family support, poverty could become a vicious cycle. A parent who has to cope alone has to be vigilant and have a strong personality.

Parents have to be sure that fheir children master the basis fundamentals of learning before they can tackle the technical functions which are necessary for today's living. There are no hard and fast rules for career building, but children should be encouraged to pursue something they like and which they can do well. This usually leads to prosperity. If they are not sure or are uncertain about what to do, they should be given guidance before they become despondent and give up. Young people like to know their parents or someone are interested in their achievements. They need and want encouragement.

Bill Cosby, the comedian, had an impoverished childhood. He worked in a supermarket. He was a shoeshine boy and he sold produce to help his family. He failed tenth grade and dropped out of school. After joining the Navy, he realized the importance of education and finished it through correspondence courses. He has a BA, MA and Ed.D. The children programs he is involved with, all have educated themes.

If you educate a man, you educate an individual, if you educate a woman, you educate a family. - Dr. Charles D. McIver.
