Movie review: The Pursuit of Happyness
The 2007 release of The pursuit of happyness set in the 1970's starring Will Smith as Chris Gardner searching for true happiness and lifestyle, factors of life become tough in his quest for the dream job and fortunes. Set in New York Chris Gardner, his wife Linda played by Thandie Newton and his son Christopher played by Jaden Smith have no money thanks to Chris making a wrong investment with laser printers for hospitals. Struggling to sell the printers the family are tight on money and Chris's wife is extremely over worked as a maid at a hotel. Tension becomes high between Chris and his wife, Chris Decides to try to become a New York stock broker which brings his wife to leaving him alone with his son.
Chris has the gift of working with numbers and decides to go for the internship for stockbroker regardless that there is no pay. Just like everyday life everything becomes much worse for Chris before it gets better, his wife takes his son, he looses his apartment and the government take money directly from his bank account. Luckily he gets his son back which gives him a reason to keep going and keep working to provide for his son. Overall the story seem like such a tragedy and I believe even myself as a male cried seeing such a nice character as Chris Gardner have such rotten luck. My personal favourite scene in the film is towards the end in the board room with the directors where you think he has failed and the emotional tension on Will Smiths face is amazing, his eyes begin to water and he tries so hard to hold a professional face, the hard work pays off as hes offered an entirely new life.
The pursuit of happyness is truly inspiring and Director Gabriele Muccino has certainly made some amazing scenes throughout the movie with everyday life's struggles, then beautiful family connection between father and son and even comedy through situations throughout the film. This One poor mans pursuit for happiness is truly inspiring and brilliant for all ages for viewing pleasure.
Through my eyes the film is almost iconic and certainly memorable, although the overall image if the film says life is only happy with money and successful work makes the film downgrade ever so slightly. If I were to score the film out of 10 then I would give it a respectable 8.
