Poetry: Heartbreak

by Charlene Thomas

Created on: July 24, 2009

What is heartbreak anyway?

Who decided that when certain events in one's life occurs

It could actually cause someone's heart to break?

How do we know for sure

That a heart is really breakable?

Perhaps if I found the author who coined this term

We could set the record straight.

Maybe they would figure out who orchestrated seismic heartbreak I'm feeling right now.

Maybe someone can explain why what seemed so minute previously

Hurts like hell right now.

Perhaps, it was because I didn't really think he was going to leave.

Now this seismic event has split my heart right down the middle

This is not heartbreak. This is irreparable damage.

This is agony. This is defeat. This is death dashing away all hope of him

ever being in my life again.

I know one thing for sure:

Heartbreaks hurt like hell.
