"He loves me; he loves me not. He loves me; he loves me not. He loves me..." Katie sat on the lawn in front of her home, picking the petals off of a rather large sunflower. Since the last petal she pulled symbolized the right answer, her lips formed into a smile and her face alighted with enthusiasm.
Just then, a boy walked up to her and began to speak, "Aren't you a bit old to be sitting here, pulling petals off flowers?"
She turned around and looked up at the boy's face. Upon realizing who spoke to her, Katie froze. Somehow, he always came around at the worst moments. Her first thought to blush, she caught herself and began to speak, "For your information, Jay, a person is never too old to dream and wish about something they really want. Plus, I am seventeen years old, same as you. Aren't you a bit young to be criticizing me?" She finished her authoritative remarks and glared in his direction.
"Well, when you put it that way, I'm sorry." Jay mustered only meager words in response to her sternness.
But Katie wasn't finished. "Jay, you are such a jerk sometimes, you know that? You know how important my own dreams are to me, yet you always seem to make fun of me at every opportunity. I'm getting sick of it. We're supposedly great friends, but you don't even seem to care about what I want out of my life. I can't stand it anymore, so you better just stop."
By now, Jay felt guilty and decided to listen to his companion. He spoke, "Alright, Katie, I'm sorry. So tell me what lies in your future! I really want to know!" And as he spoke, a genuine smile flashed across his face and a hint of interest appeared too.
Katie smiled. "Alright, mister, here it is. If you make fun of me, then we're not friends anymore. Deal?"
"Deal." Jay responded.
And so she began to lay out the plan for her future. "I want to do great things in my lifetime. I want to be on T.V. as one of the greatest broadcasters the world has seen." Her eyes began to brighten. "I want to go and find the best education that I can to fit my future career. I want to help everyone and make the closest friends that I possibly can." She laid on her back on the ground with her eyes staring into the sky. "I want to change the world in a positive way. I actually plan to do it too!" She smiled. "I want to fall in love and have a family. I want a storybook romance in my reality-stricken life. I want every moment
