Reflections: Enjoying simple pleasures

by Beatrice Okorie

Created on: July 24, 2009

Enjoy simple pleasures instead of taking medications. The cure to most people's worries is in their environment. I do not think God gave us life so we can be miserable with it.

Life is to be enjoyed by breathing in the fresh air. Keep busy with hobbies. If you do not know any hobbies then experiment with different things until you find the one suited to your needs.

Do some things that you have never done before. Write down different questions everyday so that you can look up the answer and experiment with different probabilities.

Simple pleasures to me are those things we constantly put off because we have no time for them. We could think of them as being silly, worthless, mindless and thoughtless dreams that have invaded our normal routine.

Simple pleasures can be walking around the block and discovering things that were not there before.Simple pleasures can be an imaginative scenes in your mind that makes you laugh.

We can learn simple pleasures from our children because they use it in play. They pretend to be someone or something else because they like the pleasure of imitating. They are in control of their destiny when they take themselves out of this world and put themselves in another.

Simple pleasures can be creating a new drink and giving it a name. Simple pleasures can be quiet time when sounds are no longer allowed.

Simple pleasures can mean going to a grocery store to see what people buy. It can mean figuring out who eats healthy and who does not.

A simple pleasure is a quiet walk in the park surrounded by birds and trees. You want to know if nature is aware of you. You take out the tape recording and binoculars and you just sit and listen. You put the binoculars and recorder in a bag because it starts to rain.

That should not bother you. Continue to sit in the rain and enjoy the sound. Run and yell if you have to because this is your day to enjoy the simple pleasures of life.

Do not forget the lunch you pack. Eat it. The rain continues to come down. Laugh and enjoy the water on your hair and face. Listen to the sound of nature while you eat your soggy sandwich.

The ground is now muddy. Take off your shoes and run through the mud. Roll in the mud. Do not worry because the rain will wash it off your body.

Just remember, this is your day to enjoy your simple pleasures. This might be your only day.
