I absolutely believe in pet health insurance especially for those of us who love pets and are on a budget. Sounds crazy I know but think of it this way. If your pet gets sick, needs shots, surgery etc. It always seems to happen at an inopportune time (at least in my experience) and there is never enough money in the checking account let alone the savings and all the credit cards are charged to the max! This insurance is a means of protection just like for you or me. You wouldn't want to pay for all of your medical expenses as you went right? Although they are considerably less expensive unless you plan for them they can be a nightmare and can sometimes result in the pet having to be euthenized when needed procedures are not done.

So here's the deal at least at my vet. You sign up and pay for two months up front but then you realize after your cat has had her teeth pulled and had all of her shots while your dog has also had to have a dental on top af an anestetic to clip her nails as well as her shots you would have spent over $2000 while only spending a bit over $100 at the time. Then you can budget for the monthly payment. It makes you feel great that you were able to take care of them in the proper way while insuring that if they need to return for examinations, more shots, more nail clippings, that it will be money you have already paid in the low monthly fee attached to the program level you chose. However there are some additional costs as most plans do not cover everything they are still worth every dime in the protection of your beloved pets.

As pet parents we are responsible for the care and well being of our furry friends just as if they were a human child. Trust me I know they are a whole different ballgame but it does not lessen the responsibility we took on when we adopted these loving creatures. We count on them to enrich our lives and love us unconditionally, and I feel we should do the same. We want the best for them for all they give to us. This is one way we can assure that they will get the basics of care that they need to survive in our world.
