Poetry: If you were gone

If you were gone, the Autumn winds would chill my soul,
And leaves upon the floor of forests keep their wake,
If you were gone, no season on this earth be whole,
And I would still remain here, while my heart would break.

If you were gone, the sun may rise, though may as well,
Stay hidden by the clouds that linger in my heart,
If you were gone, I would not hear the knelling bell,
Which tells the world that worship is about to start.

If you were gone, the road for me would be too tough,
Your footsteps gone, and no direction clear to see,
If you were gone, the seas would always seem too rough,
And nature somehow lose that sense of harmony.

If you were gone, there would be nothing in my life,
Except the void, the emptiness you leave,
I would be someone's widow, rather than your wife,
And in that state, stagnating as I grieve.

If you were gone, what purpose would I find,
Or thoughts or dreams and hopes to dwell upon,
For you are part of all that fills my mind,
And nothing would make sense, if you were gone.
