Reflections on spiritual unity among all faiths

by Adelani Aderemi

Created on: July 23, 2009

The only condition for a source of light to blend with the dark environment is for it to stop emitting light. The only place where spiritual unity among all faiths can thrive is where the Christians have become lukewarm and have lost their power to shine as light to this world. If there be outpouring of the Spirit, and miracles of conversion and healing are being witnessed the way it happened in the Apostolic ministry, there must be upheaval and the idea of spiritual unity among all faiths will forever remain on the drawing board as the government's attempt to quench the fire of revival.

As political propaganda to win more supporters, spiritual unity among all faiths sounds logical and a good thing to do, but coming to practice it is quite impossible for genuine Christians. Good disciples of Jesus Christ can live peaceably with everyone so long as it depends on them but cannot be in Spiritual agreement with everybody except those who are of the same convictions with him. It means watching unbelievers die in their sins without making any attempts to bring them to Christ. It means accepting the world views on face value and not saying anything against it so as not to breach the codes of this unity. It also means worshipping together sometimes as it happens in some Government functions and community meetings now where the opening prayer might be said by a Christian and the closing prayer by a Muslim. It means teaching our children that it doesn't matter what faith they decide to follow. Under this spiritual unity, Christians would be expected to intermarry with people of other faiths and openly give consent to their practices. The gross implication of this is friendliness with the world which the scriptures describe as enmity with God.

The tenets of Christianity

The foregoing and many other implications of spiritual unity among all faiths are directly in opposition to the callings and duties of true Christians. At the core of the heart of a Christian is the
