"Harp in the Sky" *
I will see power returned to the Church
all the banks in the world shall bow to Christ
all of the armies, machines, and weapons will
function as a tool of the First Vatican's might
trust in secular absolutism
free from blah-blah-blah technicalities
warrior-priests will hover over streets
executing appropriate brutalities
the wisest cardinal will quell the masses
calming their faint minds through mass hypnosis
while pilotless craft streak the skies overhead
scanning the crowds for space-alien kinosis
the Church proved there was an invasion
upon the Earth by telepathic beings
through prophylactives and 'hygienous' inserts
retailed a collection plan for gamete screenings
past governments had made deals with them
trading our genes for useful inventions
for three score and two they'd infiltrated us
taken control of the Geneva Convention
every Pope had been taught the history
and kept it as secret as the famed grail
but the one so bold as to drink from such cup
could not bear to watch all human resistance fail
he gathered the generals of the world
called a meeting in the sewers of Rome
traded information for complete power
and ordered 'deterents' placed inside every home
selectively they controlled the breeding
making them look the way the Pope wanted
securing the alleles of telepathy
Christ's new warriors stare at the stars undaunted
glowing splints that once burned out tongues and eyes
lit the way to an amazing surprise
that all the Saints and Angels of the Bible
were ancient travelers from the harp in the sky
* the 'harp', of course, refers to the Constellation Lyra,
