Everybody knows at least one of these couples. Boy and girl are best friends. He is the one that she calls when she's having problems and she's the one that he calls when he needs advice. They're constantly hanging out together and you rarely see one without the other. It's somewhat cute but at the same time extremely frustrating because it's quite obvious how good they are together. You can't help but wonder how they could be so blind as to not see it.
Girls: Whenever a guy has you on his speed dial, you know that you guys are close. But when a guy uses that speed dial number nearly as often as he calls his boys, girls beware. You're on his mind, constantly. When he can't seem to make a large decision (such as purchasing a car or going out of town for a while) without your approval, he values not only your opinion, but you. And when he and his current girlfriend have had a fight and he calls you for advice on how to fix it, he trusts you. Why else do you think his girlfriend is jealous of you?
Guys: When you find your "best friend" laying on your shoulder crying about her latest guy problem, you had better believe that you have her ultimate trust. When she calls you "just because" with nothing in particular to talk about, rest assured, she thinks about you. And when she takes you with her to go shopping, she really does value your opinion. Why else do you think her boyfriend is jealous of you?
So what is it that causes these types of situations? Where everyone who knows the pair repeatedly suggests that they get together, but they both back away from it as though it's a deadly snake. Perhaps it is. They both value their friendship so much that they don't want the stigma of "dating" to ruin that. There are countless relationships that have ended with both parties resenting the other. Perhaps they are afraid that it will change things between them. Maybe it will, and maybe they should let it. There are few things more precious in life than a great friendship, but even more rare and beautiful than that is a relationship that is built upon true friendship. For "it is better to have love and lost, than never to have loved at all". Right?
