My Father
I yearn to walk with my father,
And hear his soft voice in my ear,
His calloused hands, his gentle strength,
That saved me from hurt and fear.
As a child I took for granted
The joy and love I knew,
No thoughts of life without him,
No dream that would not come true.
He no longer walks beside me,
No arms to which I flee,
I yearn to walk with my father,
That he might save me from me.
