How to choose a college major

Once you have made the decision to go to college, the hard part is over. Now comes the fun part, deciding what your major is going to be. You may be a bit overwhelmed at first and think that it might be the hardest decision to make. In reality it may be the easiest thing about college.

Do some research. What are you passionate about, what would you like to do for the rest of your life? How long do you want to attend school before you graduate? These are just a few questions that you need to ask yourself before making this decision.

Take a few basic classes first; see how well you do in these classes. There are also classes for each program of study that you may take before enrolling into certain programs giving you a chance to see how well you understand that program.

The hard part about deciding what to study is the fact that you may change your mind more than once while attending school. Most students on average change their major at least once during their college career.

You may grow up thinking that you want to be a lawyer, so you decide that is what you will major once you attend college. Once you get there and start taking some classes you decide you do not want to go to school for that long or that you would rather do something else. Maybe instead you want to become a nurse or even a teacher. Therefore you have to change your major.

The main decision that you will have to make is what kind of job do you want to do for the rest of your life. You may decide that you would like to major in one thing and find a job doing what you love. You may decide a few years down the road that you are tired of doing that job and want something else. Well you can go back and major in something else if that is what you prefer.

It might be a big decision, but it will not be the biggest decision of your life, nor the hardest. Just remember that it does not have to be permanent, you can always change your mind if that is not what you want to do. Most people have fun choosing what they would like to major in. This is something that you are able to decide for yourself, with no one telling you that you cannot do this or that. It's your decision. Have fun with it.
