The more links there are leading back to a business website, the better it is for getting traffic from other websites and from search engines. One way to create multiple backlinks for free is by writing articles. There are several ways you can use article submissions to build backlinks, and many good opportunities for getting traffic to your website from those articles.

• Article directories.

Article directories are highly effective for driving traffic to any link placed within a resource box that will appear at the end of each article. With the right keywords, all your marketing articles will show up in appropriate search results.

The secret of success is to submit useful and informative articles, not promotional ones. Readers will click the link at the end of an article to visit your site and find out more.

Most article directories allow registered users to use any article they like, for free, on their own website or blog, in a newsletter or an ezine, provided they include all the links. If your articles are well written, original and informative, your number of backlinks will increase, whenever your articles are reproduced.

• Blogs.

Many bloggers are happy to feature posts from guest writers, and to post articles written by experts. Whenever your submission is accepted, the blogger will publish the article with a link back to your blog or website.

You can find bloggers looking for free content at webmaster forums and in blog directories. Choose good quality blogs with a high page ranking for a quality backlink.

• Forums.

You may not think of forum posts as articles, but many forums feature lengthy, well considered and informative posts. Some forums have threads specifically for article submissions. The advantage of posting articles in big active forums comes from value of the backlinks you get from the signature at the end of all your posts, where a signature link is allowed. In some forums a backlink can appear in a relevant post.

• Social networks.

You will not get backlinks from posting your own links on social networks, but you will get more traffic when you find followers on Twitter and other network sites. Post links to articles you have already submitted to directories, blogs, forums or writing sites, and this will boost the amount of traffic you get through backlinks on those sites.

• Further opportunities for article submissions.

Webmasters and site owners love free content, particularly when it is original and of good quality. The more sites you find to accept your articles, the more backlinks you get. Look in webmaster forums for content wanted, or contact website owners with an offer of original free content. Make sure all your articles are well optimized with keywords that will draw visitors to that website, and of course the site owner must agree to show live links within the article and to publish your byline at the end.
