Allergy Season: Looking Beautiful During the Spring Allergy Season

Allergies Don't Have to Ruin Your Beauty!

Looking good all year long means knowing how to change your makeup and facial routines to change with the seasons. I know I have horribly dry skin during the winter that requires more moisturizing then during the fall, and during the spring, I have some mild seasonal allergies that really mess up my makeup, when I wear it. My daughter, however, has bad seasonal allergies, and we've learned some tricks over the years to help keep her skin glowing and beautiful, even when purple circles and itchy watery eyes and noses get in the way. Let's look at a few allergy season beauty tips to help keep you looking your best during the worst allergy reaction.

Allergy Season Beauty Tip: Moisturize the T-zone

When allergies are at their worst, you will likely have watery eyes, an itchy nose, and spend time rubbing your eyes and face. You will find you develop a red nose and blotchy red cheeks too, and the skin might dry and peel or crack. To avoid this, moisturize your T-zone from your forehead down your nose and around your mouth and cheeks to keep the skin hydrated.

Allergy Season Beauty Tip: Cortisone Creams

If your face it blotchy, inflamed, itching or burning due to allergies, you might find that moisturizing with a cortisone cream in the T-zone is more effective than using just a plain moisturizer. Cortisone cream will help with the inflammation and redness, and the cream will moisturize and keep the skin soft.

Allergy Season Beauty Tip: Eye Gels, Masks, Coolers

Dark circles around the eyes are a common problem with allergy sufferers, and usually this includes puffiness and tenderness around the eyes. Using cooling eye gels and cooling masks for the eyes that you put in the freezer can cool down your eyes and help take some of the itch and sting away, while reducing puffiness. Cortisone creams or hemorrhoid creams can help reduce the puffiness if you need to go out for a special event, but use sparingly and don't get in your eyes.

Allergy Season Beauty Tip: Get Rid of the Red Blotches

Allergies often cause red blotches on the skin, and if moisturizing is not enough to prevent them, you can conceal them by using a yellow base concealer. The yellow will help offset the red color of your skin, and then you can apply your makeup as you normally would.

Allergy Season Beauty Tip: Makeup Tips

Avoid using blush when you are suffering from allergies, because you face will tend to be reddish as it is, and you don't want to add to that look. Also, consider wearing slightly more eye shadow than you normally wear, to draw attention to the top part of the eye and not the watery-ness of your allergy eyes. When suffering from allergies, use more earth tones and avoid pinks, reds, red-based colors.

If you suffer from allergies, you don't have to show it to the world. The right makeup and beauty routines and you can hide most of your allergy symptoms. Don't forget, getting a good checkup from your doctor and finding a good allergy medication can help with your appearance as well!
