The best family restaurants in Kansas City, MO

Any town you visit has your typical chain restaurants and kid's menus, but why not switch it up and look for a new atmosphere that brings out the kid in everyone. At Fritz's Railroad Restaurant you can order your food by phone from your booth and have it delivered to your table by a train! The food is nothing more than your average American diner cuisine, complete with burgers, fries, and ice cream (featuring handmade shakes), but if its family friendly you want then Fritz's is where its at. While servers bring out your drinks, an electric train delivers your meal on an overhead track; a mechanical arm stops your order then it gets lowered down on a platform to your table! Kids of all ages are watching the action in this fun filled atmosphere. Kids 12 and under will get a free engineers hat. It's newest location can be found at Crown Center-2450 Grand Blvd, Kansas City MO 64108.

If you are looking for a prehistoric family adventure, look no further than T-Rex where the motto is Eat- Shop- Explore! Keep in mind the outside of the restaurant is quite entertaining with dinosaurs, water and plants galore so give your family some play time either before or after your meal! As you walk in you will find a "Paleo Zone" or dig site for the kids to play in, as well as a Build A Dino area and gift shop . . . Oh and the food is good too! It will take a minute to take it all in and get to the actual cafe! The menu offers everything from Triassic Tortellini to an 18 oz T-Rex (bone in) Rib-eye. Located in Legends at 1847 Village West Parkway Kansas City, KS. 66111

With bright colors and drawing on the tables, what could be more fun than Crayola Cafe, also located in Crown Center. Crayola Cafe' has been recognized and awarded for - Best Family Restaurant- Best Place to Re-Visit Childhood- Best Kids Menu in America - 1st Place! But don't think that they forgot the parents, they also boast a more "grown up" menu for those who have a more experienced palate. What better place to find your inner artist on your own place-mat than Crayola Cafe!

If your children are older and have somehow managed to outgrow places like the Crayola Cafe, the Melting Pot would be a great start to a fun family evening. At the Melting Pot you get a 4 course meal experience with fondue! With tasty menu options featuring Cheese and chocolate and great dippers like bread, fruits and veggies, meats and seafood, there is something there for all kids to enjoy. It is located on the Plaza at 450 Ward Parkway, Kansas City, MO 64112
