Signs that you need a new job

If you are barely able to crawl out of bed in the morning to face the new day, that could be a sign that you need a new job. Feeling that low, you probably realize that it's time for a change, so why haven't you done something about it?

There are lots of other signs, as well, that it's time to say adios to your current job. Let's look at a few of them:

1. Nothing excites or motivates you in your job anymore. Where you used to be gung-ho about starting a new project or stimulating your sales staff, you are now at the point where you wish you could just call it in.

2. Your salary barely covers your expenses, and you have just been informed that all bonuses and raises are discontinued until further notice. If nothing else can force you into looking for a new job, this should do it.

3. You can't stand your co-workers. Sometimes it's that you have nothing in common, but it can also be that your co-workers have habits you just can't stand, or they are impossible to work with for various reasons. Again, it's time to move on.

4. Management doesn't listen to you or your ideas. This is downright insulting, and if you can't get anyone to take you seriously, you're in the wrong place. There are jobs out there where you will be appreciated for what you have to offer, not just for putting in an eight hour day.

5. You spend most of your time covering up for your boss or making him look good. What do you get out of this behavior? A pat on the back? A promotion? Nothing? If the last one is your answer, you know you need to get out of there.

6. This was supposed to be an interim job until the real thing came along. Have you somehow forgotten this or did you just get into a rut that has gotten so deep, you can't dig your way out? If so, start looking on-line or putting the word out that you are in the market for a new job.

7. There is zero chance for advancement. If you want to get ahead, but there is no opportunity, you have to admit it to yourself. It is often difficult to get motivated enough to seek out new employment, but you can't go on forever feeling under-appreciated and stuck in something that won't let you progress.

8. You don't see eye-to-eye with your boss. If you feel as though the two of you are always at loggerheads and can't accomplish anything, why are you wasting your time there? Get out of that negative atmosphere immediately. Even if you have to work as a temp, at least you won't have the stress of a constant fight each day.

9. The workplace environment is toxic. Everyone hates each other and gossip runs rampant. Productivity has gone by the wayside because morale is so low. Are you waiting for it to get worse?

10. The job you are in is not even close to what you really want to do. How did you get trapped? Try to start working on ways to get yourself out of it, even if it means starting a business in your spare time that may develop into a full-time career.

If you recognize any of these signs and don't do anything to get a new job, you are in denial. Just remember, life is short - too short to be stuck doing something you can't stand in a place you can't bear to be.
