Poetry: Pride

by Hokua oe Lopqi Lokki

My pride got into the way of my words.

I stormed off and left you by the door.

I saw the tears in your eyes.

I knew the hurt in your heart.

My pride got in the way of my words.

I refused to say the words that would ease the pain.

I refused to acknowledge that I may be at fault too.

I refused to say I was sorry.

It is too late to say those things.

My pride got in the way, and now you are gone.

I could not allow the words to escape in fear that I would have to admit defeat.

I knew those words would mean a loss on my side.

I'm sorry, that my pride got in the way.

I am sorry that I allowed my pride to get in the way of saying those two words.

I'm Sorry.
