If you are involved in direct sales as an independent distributor then the responsibility to organise a marketing campaign relies on your shoulder. Your principle objective is to reach potential customers who will buy your products. Therefore get ready to undertake this "do it all yourself" method and meet as many people as possible in one day. You might be without any resource but it is important that you plan your marketing campaign.
I was once involved in direct sales selling Herbalife protein shakes. As an independent distributor I had to attend meetings and training sessions twice a month. The training was excellent and very helpful and the coaches were friendly. It was also an opportunity to meet other distributors and share experience and learn from each other. Unfortunately for each meeting and training there was a fee to pay which I could not always afford.
As a result I decided to organise my own marketing campaign alone. It was not an easy task, rejecting all doubts and fear, I took a step forward and dived into it.
Before committing yourself to any action though, it's worth to take a pen and paper and write down some few points.
(1) Know your product
The first step is to learn and become acquainted to your products. You want to be knowledgeable and feel comfortable while talking to customers. Bear in mind that you will have to answer questions and ask questions as well so that you can present your product as more suitable to meet your customer's need.
Saying this does not mean that you need to talk a lot. People are not interested to know the company's history but only main things concerning them. Therefore a deep study is never too much but the more you know your product the better salesperson you become.
(2) Prepare your marketing material
(Size, design and quantity and content).
Are you well equipped. What are the tools that you already have in hand to use. You can write your own ads with your contact details or if you know power point you can design your own flyers/brochures.
Decide on how many flyers you want to produce per week. This will depend on the amount of potential customers you want to reach per week. You should be specific. For example if you are targeting one thousand customers in one week then you should produce that amount of flyers or more to avoid running out of flyers during the campaign.
Size: If you are going to distribute your leaflet through letter boxes or racks in shops/supermarkets, you would not want them
