Intimacy after a fight between couples is a great way to establish a pleasurable memory to offset a bad one. Sex after a fight returns the couple to one of the reasons they became a couple in the first place. There was a strong physical attraction.

In this way the couple can say to each other, "I still find you attractive and exciting." Sex can be a way for each member of a couple to show affection and concern for the needs of the other partner. At the same time, passion is continued in a positive and not negative direction. This is important since love and hate flow through similar channels in the emotions. Re-affirming a strong love is a good way to push aside any residual hate-directed feelings.

Sex after a fight also lessens the likelihood that either partner will go off seeking revenge by having sex with another person. While this act does not seem rational, often anger displaces common sense even in some very level headed people. Sex for many people says, I only want you.

The hormones released during intimacy relaxes people and creates a much better psycological and physical condition to iron out the problems that brought the fight on in the first place.
