Since Cleopatra's time, women have put on make up just like putting on jewelry to enhance their features and make them more attractive. In the early times, women use extract from berries to color the lips, natural dyes for eyes enhancement and egg whites as home made face powder. Now, thanks to cosmetic companies like Cover Girl, Revlon, Max factor and the likes, women do not need to mash fruits and tree barks to enhance facial features and hide some flaws.

The women of the world have made the cosmetic industry a billion dollar business that it is today.

While most if not all women realize how make-up can do wonders for their face and overall appearance, not everyone know how to properly apply make up. In fact, many women who just learned to apply make-up get over eager and buying the latest make up product without considering if it fits them or how it is properly applied. Applying make up is a systematic process and there are techniques to be followed to applying make up and making it natural looking work of art.

Before applying any make up on the face, use a gentle facial wash and apply moisturizer all over the face. There are moisturizers perfect for oily skin and there are those for normal or dry skin. Make sure to apply the cream or lotion around your eyes.

The makeover then starts with applying the right foundation. Foundation helps even out your skin tone. Choose one that matches your skin tone. When applying the foundation, work from the face outwards. Set the foundation in place with the use of a setting powder.

To hide the dark circles around your eyes use under eye concealers first before applying the foundation.

Do your eye make up next. You can opt to style and enhance your eyebrows first using powdered eye shadow or an eyebrow pencil.

Next, you should have three colors for eye shadow. The lightest and neutral color eye shadow covers the entire eyelid acting as base color. Medium shade is applied on the crease or corner of the eyes providing accent. The darkest eye shadow colors the upper eyelid to help open up the eyes. Experts suggest that your eye make up matches your clothes or the accessories you plan to wear.

After putting on the eye shadow, apply eyeliner. Eye liner pencil or s cake eyeliner with liner brush is used to line the lower lid, just below the lashes.

Eyelashes go next. Thick and flirty eye lashes can be achieved through eyelash curler and mascara. When applying mascara, avoid clumps by applying two thin coats. Waterproof mascara is a better choice to avoid smudging.

There are those who prefer to apply blushers along the cheekbones. To apply the blusher, smile and gently dab the blusher brush on the cheekbones moving toward the temple.

After these, you are now ready to apply lip make up. You begin by outlining your lips with a lip liner. Lip liners are used to enhance the contour of the lips or correct it. After outlining your lips, you can also fill your chops with the lip liner before applying the moisture rich lipstick. For an additional pop, apply a little gloss in the middle of the lower lip.

Make up need not be overdone. Remember, when applying make up, it should look natural so that your features are enhanced and flaws concealed.
