Steps to make your goals reality

We all have goals, and many of us dream of what we would like to achieve at different stages of our lives. The sad reality is that so few of these goals become reality, and just remain as unfulfilled dreams.

Golden aged homes and the cemeteries are replete with ideas and unfulfilled dreams. Those that were not allowed to be developed because of fear or thwarted by the opinion of others who thought these dreams were not realistic.

To ensure that our goals become reality, there are a few steps we need to take.

1. Set realistic Goals, those that have a chance of succeeding.

A goal must be:

o Specific - something can you can define or explain

o Measurable- you are able to determine what is required to achieve it

o Achievable is humanly possible within a reasonable timeline

o Realistic you are able to achieve it

o Timely.

2. Your goal must be controllable

No man is an island and we all need each other. However, although your goal includes the help of others, make sure that it can be achieved without a specific individual's help. We can control what we do, but have no control how others will respond. If your goal cannot be achieved without this person's help, then you should reconsider.

3. Your opinion matters

When you share your goals with others, they will always have an opinion on whether it is a good idea or not. Take their advice for what it is, only an advice. Do not allow the opinions of others to deter you from reaching for your goals. People's opinions are shaped by their own fears and limitations, and also on what they think you are capable of doing. Remember that there is more in you than you know and what others see. If you allow yourself to be controlled by the opinion of others, then you may not push yourself to achieve greatness. This will prevent you from achieving your God given abilities, and fulfilling your created destiny.

4.  It requires work

We look at people who have achieved a lot and dream of doing even a half of what they have achieved. One thing that is common amongst great achievers is hard work. They had a goal and stuck to it until it became a reality. If you read their stories, there were times when when they thought it would not be possible, however with diligence and perseverance they stuck it out. What we now see and admire, is the result of a lot of hard work and dedication.

Many of us have failed to make our dreams a reality because we are not willing to do what is required. Many waves are formed at deep sea, but only a few reach their destinations on the beach. If we are to be numbered with those waves that fulfilled their destiny and help to shape the beach, then we will have to be willing to work harder than the majority, overcome obstacles and use them as stepping stones.

Do not be discouraged by the first sign of failure, but use them as lessons. Believe that you are capable of doing anything you set your mind to do, and that God has given you the ability to achieve greatness.
