I do not see being addicted to alcohol or drugs as a disease. When is bad behaviour consider a disease? Most people make the choice and the rest of us have to bare down.

The government have thrown millions of dollars into treating drug and alcohol related behaviour. It is a waste of money because there will always be people who will want to take the easy way out.

A person who is not rich could also be consider having a disease of poverty. A person who does not think logically could also be consider having a disease of being stupid.

People get themselves addicted to things because they want to. We are living in the informational age. There are a lot of things we should not do because it is bad for us, but we do it anyway as a representation of our freedom.

When the word disease is used, that means the person is not responsible for their actions. It is a sick way to turn the tables on the accusers. It is an unlawful way to get or stay out of jail.

I think we have enough diseases in the world, thank you very much. Can the people who sell them the drugs and alcohol be considered diseased also?

To make matters worse, everyone else will want their own problems to be consider diseases. There will be no stoppage to this epidemic of diseases.

A lot of people who are homeless are living with alcohol and drug related problems brought on by themselves. A lot of people will relate stories how they once went down that road and now they are cured.

I personally do not see any cure when the brain has been pickled in alcohol and drugs for years. Alcohol and drug addiction stimulates other problems in the body such as malnutrition, liver disease, speech disorders, and many infections.

This still does not legitimize the right of anyone to label alcohol and drug addiction a disease because alcohol and drugs do not keep us alive. It is food, water, air, and sex.

Some people will use the label as a con game to get sympathy for their bad behaviour. They will laugh and curse those liberal-minded people who want to help them.

It could be another way States could receive funding by labeling drugs and alcohol as diseases so campaigns could get started for eradication. We will all be in trouble then. The con will get conned.
