The Red Hot Chili Peppers released Stadium Arcadium this past May (2006), with great success. Their newest album is their most ambitious yet - a double disc album, packed with 28 songs. The 28 songs that grace this album made it skyrocket to number 1 on the charts over th course of the summer and with the first hit single of "Dani California", and hits to follow in "Tell Me Baby" and "Snow (Hey Oh)", they are a shoo-in at the Grammys in some of the categories they have been nominated for.
Their songs' lyrics have matured from the times of Blood Sugar Sex Magik. While Blood Sugar was an excellent album, the Chili Peppers we know who used to be know for coming on stage with only socks covering their dicks have long since grown up and their lyrics have grown with them. Since the time of Californiacation, we as fans, have noticed a change in the profoundness to their lyrics. There are still songs from the past, like Power of Equality, that demonstrate Political Awareness in the early music, but now they have started to open up and reflect on their own experiences which really allows the fans to relate to the music more than they would if just singing about sex like back with Catholic School Girls Rule. Don't get me wrong, every Chilis fan likes to hear this song now and again, but with time, we have aged and now the Chilis have not only expanded to appeal to more audiences, but they have expanded their musical capabilities much farther than most believed were capable.
One of the greatest songs on the double disc album is Hard to Concentrate, a full on marriage proposal, which Anthony Kiedis says is a dedication to Flea and his current love situation with his fiancee.
The songs to look out for on tour - Charlie, Snow (Hey Oh), Storm in a Teacup. I think we will be hearing more great things from the Chili Peppers in the coming years. I would say this is their most interesting collection of music to date, just because of the wide range of music genres that this album covers. From their own unique brand of rock-funk, to a softer side of alternative music which really displays their emotions and vulnerabilities is what we have here in Stadium Arcadium and I think it is great!
