As the nation debates health care reform it is difficult at best to say whose voice is really being heard the most but my guess is that special interest groups are having the most influence on stalling Obama's plan for a government run health care program..
History has shown in the past that special interest groups, backed by large amounts of money always come out the winner when a plan that would affect big business and limit their profits is defeated or tabled before it even gets to Congress for a vote.
The money comes from businesses who have become filthy rich at the expense of American taxpayers and these businesses have fought hard and have kept the government from taking any steps that would stop or limit their profits.
Lobbyists for these companies are given large amounts of cash to give to politicians who in return are asked to withold their support for any reform that would "hurt" big business.
In theory this tactic should not work. "Paying off" or "bribing" a politician should be considered illegal and morally wrong for a politician to accept lobbyists money ( a.k.a. "bribe money" ). In reality however, it would seem that it's all right to bribe a politician and give him money - no one has ever been arrested for giving or taking the money and lobbyists are still in and around Washington, handing out money and winning the war against reforms.
In this case however, stalling the talks on health care reform is not a bad thing.. The President's attempts to rush his plan through Congress is suspect and what those plans entail and the effect it will have on America and the lives of all American's needs to be investigated thoroughly.
Any plan that threatens to weaken or destroy capitalism in our country should be rejected but that wasn't the case when General Motors was taken over by the government and the automobile industry was for all intents and purposes destroyed. .
To rush headlong into a healthcare reform that would signal the end of private health insurers and put every American into a government run health care system is not only foolish but downright dangerous. The government is no different that the CEOs of the health insurance companies - they want to make a profit and the goal is to have the taxpayer foot the bill for their health care and the health care of all.
In order for the government to accomplish that goal there will be cost cutting measures implemented by the government and Americans will find that their access to specialized
