Reflections: The Perfect First Date
All of us can tell cute, sad or silly first date stories. Every first date leads somewhere, whether to further dates, a steamy hot night, or just a simple bye, bye.
Whatever it leads to, they always make for a good conversation piece. We love to talk about them even if the outcome is not so good. I have a few first date stories of my own but my favourite one is a simple one that led to further dates, a wedding and two beautiful children.
It was a blind date; which is always more nerve racking than a regular date. Recognizing the guy is the first hurdle to get over and then deciding if you want to even say hello is the second hurdle. Luckily for me my date looked like a normal kind of guy with a nice smile and gorgeous blue eyes.
We met after work and were both really hungry so instead of sticking to the usual coffee and cake we walked to a small Italian restaurant and dug right into some tasty spaghetti. The evening was so relaxing, we just talked and talked. There were none of those uncomfortable silences or pauses.
The time had come for the meal to end, and the question of 'what next' passed through my mind. Do I say; let's go somewhere else or thanks it was great evening lets do it again. Or should I just wait and see what he says.
Luckily for me on the way back to my place he suggested we continue the evening elsewhere and so it was on to a pretty lakeside caf. One huge glass of white wine each and even more talking, a couple of hours later and we were the last two people left. We thought it best to move on before they decided to lock us in with the ducks, we took a long walk around the lake and had a rest on a step overlooking the water.
The whole evening was perfect, where was this going to go? How many times has it happened that you think, great may be this time it will lead somewhere, he seems like a great guy. What could go wrong? But then for some unknown reason that only men know (sorry, had to add that in) they disappear without even a phone call. The date although wonderful did have to end at some point, the drive home was quiet but not uncomfortable. I was thinking all those usual end of date dilemmas. Should we kiss, make arrangements for another date or just say goodbye?
As I mentioned earlier this date led to a second one, a wedding and two beautiful daughters. So you can definitely say a very successful first date that led to a bright and wonderful future for both of us.
