It's a very rare occurrence when a major league baseball player hits two grand slams in one game. So rare, in fact, it has happened only 12 times in history. Since the last time the feat was achieved, there have been 10 6-hit games, eight no-hitters, and three 30-game hitting streaks.
Here are the players that have hit two grand slams in a single game:
May 24, 1936 - Tony Lazzeri, New York Yankees
New York's Tony Lazzeri will always hold the distinction of being the first player to hit two grand slams in one game.
July 4, 1939 - Jim Tabor, Boston Red Sox
Boston's Jim Tabor hit two grand slams in a single game during his first full season. He hit seven slams during his 9-year career.
July 27, 1946 - Rudy York, Boston Red Sox
On July 27, 1946, Boston's Rudy York hit two grand slams off of Tex Shirley. York was a known power hitter in his prime. A seven-time All-Star, York had four 30 home run seasons and connected for a then-record 18 home runs during August 1937.
May 9, 1961 - Jim Gentile, Baltimore Orioles
Baltimore first baseman Jim Gentile had a monster year in 1961. Not only did he connect for two grand slams in one game, but he hit .302, had 46 home runs, and had 141 runs batted in. All would be career highs.
July 3, 1966 - Tony Cloninger, Atlanta Braves
Tony Cloninger is the only pitcher to hit two grand slams during the same game. They would be the only grand slams he would hit during his entire career.
June 24, 1968 - Jim Northrup, Detroit Tigers
Jim Northrup, also known as the Gray Fox, is the only Detroit player to hit two grand slams in a single game.
June 26, 1970 - Frank Robinson, Baltimore Orioles
On June 26, 1970, Hall of Famer Frank Robinson hit two grand slams in a 12-2 victory over the Washington Senators. Those two grand slams would be the last he would hit during his brilliant career.
September 4, 1995 - Robin Ventura, Chicago White Sox
Third baseman Robin Ventura seemed to come up big when the bases were loaded. Not only does he rank 4th all-time with 18 career grand slams, he's also the only player to hit a grand slam in both games of a doubleheader.
August 14, 1998 - Chris Hoiles, Baltimore Orioles
Chris Hoiles is the only major league catcher to hit two grand slams in one game. He's also the third of three Baltimore Orioles players to achieve the feat.
April 23, 1999 - Fernando Tatis, St. Louis Cardinals
Fernando Tatis didn't just hit two grand slams in a single game, but he hit both his slams in the same inning off of the same pitcher, Chan Ho Park.
May 10, 1999 - Nomar Garciaparra, Boston Red Sox
Fan favorite Nomar Garciaparra went 3-for-5 with three home runs against the Seattle Mariners on May 10, 1999. Two of the three homers were grand slams.
July 29, 2003 - Bill Mueller, Boston Red Sox
Bill Mueller is the last player to hit two grand slams in one game. Mueller is perhaps best known for his game-tying hit in Game 4 of the 2004 ALCS, which the Boston Red Sox won 6-4 over the New York Yankees.
