The race: Blu-ray DVD vs. HD DVD format

Many of you have heard and wondered about the new Blu-ray discs and players which are going to slowly take over the DVD. You've also wondered if with the high priced disc players if there really worth the money. Well hopefully in this article i am hoping to help you out and figure out who will win this little 'war' between DVD and Blu-ray.

To start off with, DVD's have been with us for a long time, taking over the old VHS'. And this change sure did make a difference to how we viewed movies and tv shows on screen. They had more memory, up to 17.1gb of storage to hold for better veiwing quality. For once, we didn't have to wait ages to fast forward to the part we got to on our movies. We got menus, subtitles and commentary. And on top of all that, the DVD players come pretty cheap nowadays too. But now we are in the year 2007, not 1997! we have new HD TV's, and HD TV's just wont be so HD without a HD disc player, right? So thats where Sony come along.

With the new Blu-ray, you dont just get 17gb storage, you get up to 50gb storage! what difference does that make you say? well it makes alot. For a start, with 50gb space, you will have ever more room for oustanding quality HD movies. Games will be larger and have better graphics, almost looking too realistic. Now all you serious gamers out there cant say that thats not heaven to you! So in that perspective, Blu-ray dominates the future of digital film.

But to every good thing, there has to be a downside. And that downside is the cost of the players. To get a top notch Blu-ray player, your looking at spending $1000+. But Sony have come up with a new way to get people to switch to Blu-ray. The PS3 uses Blu-ray discs as standard and the machine also allows you to play blu ray movies. And if you ask me, i say that a games console and a Blu-ray player all together for $599 is a pretty good price considering how much you would have to pay for just a seperate Blu-ray disc player.

So this was my opinion on the future of digital film, and i hope it helps you with the choice to switch!
