Is it good to laugh during sex?

by Jami Wright

Created on: July 19, 2009

They say that laughter is the best medicine. But the question is if laughter is okay during sex? The answer is really up to the two people that are in the moment and what type of laughter is used. Laughter can be a great way to connect on an emotional level while you are trying to also connect on the physical. There are many different types of laughter. To truly answer this question we will have to look at the types of laughter, the people involved, and why you are laughing.

Types of laughter:

Giggling is sexy and contagious. It is in no way harmful or hurtful in the bedroom. As a matter of fact giggling can help increase that intimacy and make it stronger.

Nervous laughter can sometimes come across as a dull giggle or laugh. Most of the time nervous laughter is easily recognized because a person continues to laugh at odd times as long as they are nervous. If your partner is laughing nervously and you pick up on this you might be able to talk to them to make them feel more at ease or respond in a way that puts them at ease. Either way nervous laughter is not threatening and often happens in intimate situations when the relationship is new.

Laughter at something funny can go either way. If your partner gets naked and you laugh they may take offense and think it was something about them that made you laugh. If you are laughing because you are having clothing difficulty it can become a shared intimate moment that you both share. How about if your partner comes to bed wearing a ridiculous costume? Well if you are both in on the joke it is good to laugh. If he/she is trying to be sexy and you laugh it may become quite the turn off.

The basic rule of thumb is to not use laughter as a tool to hurt, humiliate, or insult your partner in anyway. If you use laughter in a respectful way it can become quite a fun way to connect with your partner in emotional intimacy and not just physical. If your partner does not have a sense of humor you may want to keep the laughter to a minimum because they may not appreciate this as much as you. If you can differentiate between the different types of laughter and follow these simple rules you will find that adding laughter is a great way to get you into the mood.
