Racism is very much alive in Australia, a broad minded lot we are, with a relaxed attitude to life. But delve below the surface and you will find a racist Australia. Modern Australia has a label of "A Multicultural Nation." Hidden behind a friendly nation as Australia is publicized around the globe and you will find the mentality of a racist society. John Howard said "I do not accept that there is underlying racism in the country." Prime Minister of Australia 1996-2007.

Race hits the headlines many times in Australia, a detectable displeasure by White Australians at the reference to the old "White Australia Policy," which was part of the Federation Policy when Australia became a nation in 1901. The White Australia Policy is hardly mentioned anymore, most Australians dismiss it as a brief deviation in our history. But if we took a long hard look at ourselves and came to terms with its imprint in our history. It personifies the heart of the Australian's background and maturity.

White Australia was the first legislation processed by our National parliament in 1901. The founding principle of our national identity. Not a small issue that can ever be glossed over. The early Australian looking to escape the class system in England, and poverty of all in England. The first politicians gathered an idea an embraced the people of Australia, on the idea of making a pure new society. The idea was to create a democratic, genuine great nation. Today the world researches the past and the development of the White Australia Policy and it displays nothing but racism. The 19th century throughout history is dominated by race, and there was a natural evolving of a superior race that was of one color. It was led by the idea that a multicultural society, that would unfortunately be hierarchically developed. Resulting in the fact that the community had to be of one race.

When discussion in parliament debated, whether Australia's north could be opened up, and the prospect of using cheap agreed labor from the Asia Pacific regions. On the other hand whether Australia was to be a nation built on free labor being paid union wages. This was fought on economic and political fronts. Democracy was still extremely young around the world, when the White Australia policy was introduced into parliament. The policy was introduced by attorney-general Alfred Deakin argued that the north of Australia was slow to develop but it was worth it to build a great society. The politicians
