Scientology; The Science of Knowing, or 'knowing How to Con.'
The religion known as Scientology originated with a man called L. Ron Hubbard.
Lafayette Ronald Hubbard; born - March 13, 1911, died - January 24, 1986.
L. Ron Hubbard, hereafter identified as Ron, regarded himself to be an author.
One cannot deny the claim because he did write many successful science fiction stories, including one called 'Battlefield Earth,' which was made into a movie starring John Travolta.
But what was the foundation of Scientology?
Was Scientology based on science fiction or can any legitimate inspired origination be identified?
The first book acknowledged to be the forerunner of Scientology was called Dianetics.
Basically Dianetics is a set of ideas and practices regarding the relationship between the spirit, mind and body and were developed by Ron. The contents of this book are practiced by followers of Scientology.
The word Dianetics is regarded as being derived from the Greek word dia meaning through, and nous, meaning the mind; through the mind.
In his book Ron identifies the existence of a three part mind; the conscious or analytical mind, the subconscious or reactive mind, and the somatic mind.
The purpose of this book was to allow people to recognise the damage done by their subconscious mind during their daily lives, and how they should combat this.
In accompaniment with this book was a procedure called 'auditing;' this is where a series of questions are asked, by a mediator, normally someone practising Dianetics or Scientology. The purpose of this auditing is to attempt to remove any painful memories from the past which subconsciously are preventing the subject to advance through their life. (According to Scientology these memories of the past include those memories recalled from all previous life existences).
These auditing sessions were normally held in establishments run by those studying Dianetics or Scientology and each session needed to be paid for.
They also conduct a personality test which would probably conclude with something like; "I can see that your communicating skills are very weak and I would suggest that you take our communications course;" (of which they will hope that you pay for before you leave).
However, Dianetics secured a large following and laid down the foundation for its protg 'Scientology.'
