Poetry: Beloved

by Marsha Singh

Now and then he stops.

Lilacs tremble on the bush.

He returns to me.

Evening swells and spills

across his back and further.

I collect handfuls.

If an easy rain

would make the rocks slippery

he would hold my hand.
