The lives of Buddha, Jesus and Mohammed were lives of spiritual reflection. Each life was unique. Each life was, in a sense, divine.

Enlightenment lights the pathway to our contact with our higher self. It is the part of our soul that is simpatico with our deepest, most genuine feelings. Our higher self is our core. It is the part of us that is divine.

I identify my higher self as the still small voice that lies deep inside of me. This voice is often times a guide when I encounter fear or self doubt. The concept of finding my true calling with the help of my higher self is not conventional.

When I was a child, I felt unreservedly loved. I had the luxury of doing whatever made me happy at the time. This feeling of bliss was my daily companion.

As the years passed, I lost touch with my innocence and my sense of bliss. I was taught that it was more important to be smart. Decisions were about being practical, rather than doing what made me happy. During this time I was seeking financial security. I was not listening to my higher self and certainly not in touch with my concept of a true calling. If my true calling had my inner phone number, it found the line disconnected.

Now after forty years of disconnection, I realize I was living my true calling at the birth of my daughter. Every opening night and all the moments spent acting and singing on stage, were part of my true calling. When my father kissed me for the last time as he died, I experienced my true calling. For me, my true calling has been the sum of the events and moments that were about love.

Have you ever searched for something and could not find it although you were certain you knew where it was? You look and look until you finally give up. It's usually at that moment you find it. It was there all along. You just could'nt find it until you surrendered the intensity of your search. The more you search for your true calling, the more likely you are to miss it.

My higher self is teaching me that being emotionally present within each moment of my life fulfills my true calling. I am called to give and receive love. This can happen at the grocery store picking out avocados or dancing on the stage at the Kennedy Center. It is a process of practice, not perfection. My talents manifest themselves within every human encounter. We are all connected to one another. My higher self encourages me to witness and rejoice in this realization. It has also encouraged me to write this and share it with you.
