Live for the moment. That is the essence of Israel. Don't get too tied to any plans you might make before your departure, because they're likely to change. Still do make those plans, but Israel is an ever-changing society where enjoying each moment is the only thing that is certain. For those who thrive on structure, learn the Hebrew word for patience, which is "Savlanut". And enjoy each moment of this beautiful, captivating, and fascinating country. You'll get hooked.

There is much to take in during each moment of a visit to Israel. The land holds thousands of years of history on its windy stone streets, desert fortresses, and Mediterranean mountains. It is the spiritual connector for three of the worlds' major religions: Christianity, Islam, and Judaism. It is where the First and Second Temple stood at the center of Judaism and where the Kingdom of David once flourished. It is the birthplace of Jesus, his ministry, crucifixion, and believed resurrection. It is also the place where Mohammad rose up from the Dome of the Rock. Great civilizations such as the Israelites, the Romans, the Ottoman, the British, and today's modern state of Israel have created some of the world's most historic and pivotal sites, and perhaps because of this magnitude, it has also seen many devastating wars.

Some may say that ten days are enough to grasp the highlights of the country and get a feel for its rhythm. A visitor can stay much longer and still not see everything the country has to offer. Below is a compilation of the top sites for any visitor to Israel.

Jerusalem's Old City is a must. The Old City is divided into four quarters: Armenian, Christian, Jewish, and Muslim. Each quarter has its own unique personality and is filled with fascinating sites. At the heart of the quarters is the Western Wall, where the First and Second Temples once stood, and the Dome of the Rock where Mohammad is believed to have gone on his night journey and also the site where Jews believe the Temple Mount once stood. A tour there should include the wall itself with views to the Dome of the Rock, the Davidson Center, which includes a virtual tour of what the Temple would have looked like during various time periods, and also a tour underneath the tunnel walls. Be sure to book ahead if you plan to visit the underground tunnel tour.

While in the Old City, be sure to visit the Church of the Holy Sepulchre where the New Testament claims
