Poetry: Why?

by C. C. Laurel

Created on: July 18, 2009

Younger eyes reflect the years

Of a soul battered and scorched

Travel through strain and strife

Questioning "the what for"

A quest for inner discern light

Required strength aloft

The burden held by duty drawn

Left shadow land forlorn

A soldier, then, needs no fears

As he faced the dragon's fire

Astride created pain and grief

Questioning "the what for"
