A Review of Yahoo! Mail
Virtually in the world today, there is no way a site of email, webmail and chat types will be mentioned without the reference of Yahoo! Mail. Yahoo! Mail was first brought into being on the 8th October 1997.
Since Yahoo! Was created, a resident investment banker named JoJo Healy had been dealing with the possession of Yahoo!. He would always consider whether to build, buy or rent as regards the business and employees. He had hung everything on the growth of competitors and the current position of the company. He eventually decided to bargain things to make his company acquire speed to the market.
He saw that the progress in the number of Internet users in due course heightened the electronic mail technology. At the same time, the lift in the technology also brought a very competitive environment. The most important features of any company that is web-based is E-mail which would indicate regular visit from the e-mail users to the website.
The offers of the sales of Hotmail and Mirabilis were first taken to Yahoo!. But Yahoo! Could not purchase those because they were too expensive. Later Microsoft bought Hotmail for $400 Million while Mirabilis was bought by AOL at $288 Million.
Not long after, Yahoo! Still in contest to get the full control of Four11, an online communication company. Yahoo! Intentionally sealed a deal of $96 million with Four11 due to a webmail launched by the company in March 1997. On October 8, 1997 which was very close to the time Yahoo! Mail was launched, the acquisition of the other web-based mail was announcement. Yahoo! Saw a very competitive environment as their analysis gave that Hotmail was receiving thousands of users per week. This drove a need for them to build a very serious market.
The change was not an easy one for many RocketMail users as it took Yahoo! To create many more help pages for both new and old users. The Yahoo! network was gradually redesigned in the year 2002 was announced that other services like Yahoo! Mail would cross the same threshold. New features were to be implemented, together with new routing tools like drop-down menus in DHTML and different category tabs, and a new user-customizable color plot.
That same year, another paid service was launched tagged Yahoo! Mail Plus. Yahoo! Mail Plus presented users with a number of new features, like: 25 megabytes of e-mail storage; 10 megabyte message size limit; Ability to send up to 10 attachments per e-mail; POP Access and Forwarding;
