Some babies fall asleep quickly, with little effort needed. Simply give their back some gentle rubs and they are off for the evening.

Other babies do not fall asleep nearly as easily and can make the bedtime thing a tremendous burden for their parents. These babies do not making a routine easy on their parents and this can be very stressful for them.

You are not alone if you are struggling with this problem. There are a lot of useful tips that parents can take advantage of that may help. It is worth the effort to give you and your baby some much needed rest.

First you need to start a routine from the very beginning with your baby. Sticking to this routine is of the utmost importance. It is easier to go through this process now then when they are at an older age.

If it is a nap time that you are looking at your baby having, try doing it in a room that is well lit. This will help them to sleep less in the daytime which will help them to sleep more during the night.

Have your little one make a habit of using a certain toy or blanket when they are going to sleep. This can create a comfort zone for them that will help them relate to sleep time only.

If your child still has a problem when they are approaching 5 or 6 months in age there is another method that a parent can try. It involves the theory of having your little one fall asleep alone.

You need to start this with a bedtime routine that ends with your baby be left alone in their room. Put them to bed while they are awake the first night. Leave them alone in the room. Don't jump if they start to cry, wait for at least 5 minutes, then go into the room and comfort them a bit. Make the amount of time that you spend comforting them brief and do not pick them up.

Once they have settled down some, proceed to leave the room again. This time wait a bit longer when they start to cry before going into the bedroom. Comfort them in the same manner as before and leave again. Continue this way but extend the periods of time that the baby is left alone before you enter the room. The baby will get used to being alone and drift off to sleep. Mind you the process can be a bit frustrating.

Make the room that the baby sleeps in a comfy and cozy place for them. Remember how they felt when they were still inside the mother and this will give you an idea of the comfort level that they require. Do not make it too quiet or this can cause you other issues with them sleeping down the road.

These are just a few good tips that can make things a lot easier for you to get your baby to fall asleep. Be patient with them and the results will be well worth it.
